6 unique spots in the Canary Islands

6 unique spots in the Canary Islands

A holiday with a taste of bananas and a dash of sunshine

You’ve been asking if we have any foreign gems on our Slowhop trail. Without beating around the bush, we can confidently say—absolutely! It’s not just Poland that has atmospheric getaways. Beyond its borders, we’ve got a nose for greenery, laid-back vibes, and doing things your way. What to expect in the Canaries? Sandy beaches, volcanoes, ocean breezes, and a lineup of water sports. You can stroll on flat paths or head up mountains. Eternal spring seekers, this way.

Hotel on a banana plantation

Reserve here

Is there anyone here who likes bananas? Great, you’ve come to the right place! We invite you right into the heart of the action, on an actual banana plantation. You’ll see it all up close, feel the rough bark of the banana plant under your fingers, and taste what’s said to be the sweetest bananas in the world. Plus: wind in your hair, majestic mountains on one side and the deep blue ocean on the other. Can you feel the vibe already? All the rest you’ll uncover on-site. Your guide is Baltasar himself, heir to the banana empire.

'A wonderful place to unwind away from the hustle and bustle, right in the middle of a banana plantation. The courtyard is beautiful and the view from the restaurant over the plantation and ocean is stunning. Many thanks for going the extra mile and sending back our little one's stuffed toy that we left behind in the room after leaving. Thank you very much, and I hope to see you again 🥰'.

Gran Canaria away from the crowds with a rooftop pool

Book on Slowhop

Gran Canaria without the crowds? We recommend this port town in the quieter northwest corner of the island. With a private pool on the terrace and ocean views. Craving sea breezes and underwater dives that skyrocket your endorphins? You’re only a 15-minute walk from the waves. Treat the six-person house as a basecamp — we suggest renting a car to explore the Caribbean-like beaches on the south side of the island. Or let it be your main retreat. Then it’s all about lazy strolls around Agaete, cooking al fresco, and a book in the shade of the pergola.

Countryside house with a vineyard on Tenerife

Book on Slowhop

Have you ever stayed in a poet’s house that doubled as a winery? If not, here’s a perfect chance. “I have a little house bathed by the north wind, between the sea and the shadow of a mountain. It's adorned with beautiful palms rising among prickly pears,” wrote one of the Canary Islands’ 19th-century literary masters and original owner. At Caserío, you can still find the spots where he sat, searching for inspiration and gazing at the landscape. But poetry is one thing — seeing it yourself is another. Come feel that atmosphere firsthand. They say the sunsets here are spectacular!

'The place is magical and beautifully located! :) It’s close to everything if you want to explore the more scenic parts of Tenerife beyond the touristy, bare south. The house was restored with respect for its 18th-century farmhouse charm and equipped with all the essentials, from a dishwasher to a hair dryer. The beds are super comfy! The kitchen is well stocked — we cooked dinner with ease. The guide from the owners with recommended spots was great — we tried several of their suggestions.'

Luxury apartments on Tenerife with Atlantic views

Book now

We’re on the largest Canary Island, the one with black sand that warms your feet, ocean waves in the background, and swimming spots within reach. On top of that: Teide (read: a giant volcano), the fairytale dragon tree, banana groves, and sunshine that never takes a day off. Around San Marcos, you’ll find something far from a rustic cabin. Spacious, modern apartments with a hint of sunshine and the sound of waves. Ideal for couples and families, with a pool and sunset views. Just steps from local taverns, but far enough from crowded resorts. Enjoy breakfast on the patio, sip a cup of fresh coffee, or simply soak in the view. They say blue calms the nerves. If that’s true, you’ll return more relaxed than a sloth after a massage.

A retreat for total relaxation with endless views

Book on Slowhop

Tindaya is a small village on Fuerteventura where life follows the rhythm of the moon’s phases and ocean tides. There’s a shop, two bars, a restaurant, a small square, a bus stop and… that’s about it. You’ll also find the best goat cheese on the island and nights filled with desert silence and an outrageously starry sky. This home is for those seeking something—peace or adventure. Some admire Mount Tindaya from the terrace, others climb it, and the most eager catch the wind in their sails and head for the waves.

Mangoes and bananas straight from the tree

Reserve now

Homemade wine, mangoes straight from the tree, palms, a pool, and what Slowhoppers love most: hosts with open hearts! Though it looks unassuming, guests say it’s a hidden gem. We’ll add that you won’t leave empty-handed. The hosts have their own vineyard, banana trees, and coffee growing right next door. Best of all, they know the island like the back of their hand and are happy to share where the local culinary genius is hiding or which beach has no crowds. Does a house with a pool in the shade of banana trees sound tempting? Pack your flip-flops and the kids.
