9 essential spots for a cozy weekend

9 essential spots for a cozy weekend

in the Silesian Beskids, Poland

We've already been to Beskid Niski and Żywiecki, so now it's time for the Silesian Beskids. You're well on your way to acing geography—your teacher would be proud.

Beskid Śląski borders Żywiecki to the south, Mały Beskid to the east, and the Czech Silesian-Moravian Beskids to the west (also highly recommended). For reference, here's a map.

This is where Jaworzynka in the Silesian Beskids boasts a tripoint—Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia meet here. When visiting the Trójwieś Beskidzka (Koniaków, Istebna, and Jaworzynka), you can stand in all three countries at once, admire the world’s largest lace in the Guinness Book of Records, and explore the Jerzy Kukuczka Memorial Room, dedicated to Poland’s legendary mountaineer.

Hikers can tackle the highest peaks: Skrzyczne (1,257 m) and Barania Góra (1,220 m). The ridge trail between them is one of the most scenic in the region—avoid weekends if you want a peaceful walk. Instead, try the charming “Źródła Olzy” walking trail, then continue to Gańczorka and Karolówka, ending at the PTTK shelter on Przysłop. On a clear day, you’ll spot Slovakia’s Fatras and fellow hikers who haven’t discovered this hideaway yet.

If you feel like going underground, the Silesian Beskids offer several caves—Jaskinia w Trzech Kopcach, Malinowska, and Salmopolska among them. But come prepared: a phone flashlight won’t cut it for real spelunking.

The entire Silesian Beskids lie within the Silesian Beskids Landscape Park, home to two nature reserves and dozens of protected monuments. Nature enthusiasts, take note: in Jaworzynka you’ll find the Carpathian Spruce Gene Bank and Spruce Museum, celebrating the Istebna spruce, renowned as one of the world’s toughest and finest spruces.

That’s a lot, right? We’ll pause here. For more ideas, check the “What To Do” section in our full Silesian Beskids guide. Below, we’ve picked 9 stays that showcase the best of the Silesian Beskids in the “sleep” category—and beyond. Ready to explore?

Villa Zwolakówka

Book on Slowhop

You could say Villa Zwolakówka has layers. Like an onion, although we prefer comparing it to popsicles. The first layer: a sauna with a view and a perfectly designed chill-out space. The second layer: the legendary food (pancakes rule). The third layer: a gate opening onto the forest. But at the core—you’ll find Magda, Neil, and the hosts who look after your stomach and your heart. Just when you think you’ve peeled back all the layers, another surprise pops up! Reviews keep rolling in. For hiking, follow the nearby green trail to Stożek or Barania Góra—just choose left or right. If mountain biking is more your thing, ask Neil; he knows the trails and will set you up for the ride of your life. Sweet bonus: unlimited cake all day long.

“A magical place with wonderful hosts who treat you like family. I can't decide what charmed us more: the homemade breakfasts, regional specialties, the crackling evening fire on the terrace, or the sauna overlooking the snowy woods—everything combines to create an atmosphere you'll want to return to.”

It’s warm, friendly, and homely—you could spend your vacation in slippers. Peace is guaranteed: Villa Zwolakówka welcomes adults and older kids (14+). Perfect for a romantic weekend, a nature-side work retreat (the Wi-Fi is solid), and peeling back even more layers of Zwolakówka.

Krańcówka Szczyrk – Upper

Book on Slowhop

When you venture into town, you need a solid reason—like this one. Krańcówka sits at the very end of the road, flanked by forest, with a stream as your soundtrack and a view of Skrzyczne even from the bathroom. No TV here; instead, you can watch ski jumpers train live from the terrace. The historic chairlift that once carried tourists up to Skrzyczne now serves as seating—perfect for sipping your morning coffee. Step outside, and 40 km of ski runs are practically under your feet. Not into skiing? Try 13 km of singletrack mountain-bike trails of varying difficulty. For a thrill after, head over to Ustroń and ride the luge track—fun at any age.

“Silence, peace, forest, deer, winter ambiance, and the babble of a mountain stream—Krańcówka delivered it all. The cottage is perfectly placed for rest, with a fully stocked kitchen, rooms with comfy beds and big windows, a cozy fireplace in the living room, and an outdoor terrace for lounging. The owners are incredibly kind and welcoming.”

Top-class views. Close to nature yet near civilization if needed. You get a fire pit and a playground for kids, and if the weather turns, there’s always Netflix.

Lipa pod Groniem

When we think “Ustroń,” those modernist pyramid hotels on Równica come to mind. If you haven’t seen them yet, here’s your chance—and an even better place to stay: two twin cottages by the mountain, snug against the forest. From the doorstep, set off to Równica’s summit (884 m) and choose from a palette of hiking trails. Reward yourself in the barrel sauna and hot tub. Anglers can try their luck in the on-site pond, then grill their catch at Kurna Chata. Once you’ve refreshed in body and spirit, explore Ustroń-Zawodzie along the “Silesian Pyramids” trail.

“Fantastic place! Beautiful, peaceful surroundings. The garden is meticulously designed. The cottages feel like home—fully equipped, cozy interiors, and the sauna and hot tub are the cherry on top, offering 110% relaxation. Photos don't do it justice. The hosts live next door—always available but never intrusive, so you feel completely at ease.”

Szuflandia

Book on Slowhop

Stop wondering what it’s like to sleep in a drawer—navigate to Wisła and find out yourself. Szuflandia’s drawer-like rooms hanging off Kiczera mountain are the brainchild of Ewelina (the dreamer) and Artur (the MacGyver). Inside, you’ll find Artur’s handcrafted touches, minimalist design, and all the basics for a restful stay.

Picture this: you and a loved one tucked into your suspended “drawer” with a panoramic view and no bouncing toddlers in sight. Now for the hedonist zone: dry sauna, steam sauna, and a heated pool in season. Ski lovers rejoice—the slope is just steps away, so you can head out in your slippers.

“We stayed 10 days and barely left our drawer. The view of the hills, the fresh-smelling bed linen, and the comfy bed made it hard to get up. Szuflandia is also a great base for hiking, biking, and shopping—yet far from city noise and crowds. On hot days, the pool was perfect; evenings were for the sauna. We were greeted with fresh flowers and fruit. In short: a perfect vacation!”

Slow Chatka Istebna

Book on Slowhop

See that? This is our vision of pure peace: a 15 m² terrace, a hammock, and endless views of the Beskids (or the village pony, Bobas). Once owned by the father of the host Asi—Baca Jas—the cabin got a gentle makeover and now serves as a summer retreat from May through late autumn. Heads up: this is for seasoned adventurers who treat waiting for hot water as a mindfulness exercise and no-signal zones as a modern blessing. Stoke the wood stove (cooking your scrambled eggs on the embers is life-changing), catch a glimpse of “Bambi” at dawn, and stay in your favorite sweats for a week. If you tire of total relaxation, hike the red trail from Stecówka to Barania Góra in those same sweats.

Expect visits from wildlife—if rodents, lizards, or bugs freak you out, this isn’t the place. Noise-sensitive guests should note that a loose floorboard in the living room can make the sideboard rattle. We find it amusing, but it might drive others up the wall.

Here, there's a 50% chance you won’t step outside until your vacation ends. You can catch a glimpse of what’s beyond the door from the window. LOFT 85 appeals to design lovers like ice cream to kids. Once you settle by the fireplace or lounge on the chaise with a hot drink and Skrzyczne framed in the window, nothing else is needed for rest. Bring friends—there's enough space for everyone. Upstairs, you’ll find a spacious terrace and a barbecue area. If you manage to muster the will to go out, join a trail or hit the slope (visible from the window). The heated ski storage room makes gear care a breeze.

“Amazing spot! We were a group of 11—including 5 small kids and a dog. Everyone had their own space, the kitchen was superbly equipped, there was plenty of table space, a fireplace, and comfy sofas. Perfect for relaxation :)”

Ideal for large family or friend gatherings—up to 12 guests. Kids welcome (washer on site). Three ski lifts within about a kilometer.

NaszjestWasz

Book on Slowhop

This is where we’d bring the kids for all those fun things adults supposedly shouldn’t do (we’d tell them it’s for the kids, of course). At NaszjestWasz, when you ask “Where are the kids?” the answer is always: “In the hot tub.” If your little ones have mermaid blood, you’ll probably have to pull them out with a) brute force or b) cunning arguments. For example: “Come on, let’s go see bats, bake the best bread ever, and look at goats!” First, head to Brenna to watch bats roosting in the church tower and local school observatory. Then it’s time for gluten at the Goat Farm, where you can bake sourdough bread, feed goats, make cheese, or join a wool-crafting workshop. After that, the kids sleep like logs, and you get the hot tub all to yourselves. Simple.

A house for 8 with unlimited hot-tub access. Perfect for families: a large fenced garden and plenty of nearby kid-friendly activities.

‍

Dom pod Baranią – Homestead

Book on Slowhop

Winter under Barania Góra is pure magic—snow, ice-cicle cocktails, and carving tracks untouched by dogs. Two log houses sit at 850 m with stunning mountain views: one for up to 8 guests, the other for 3. Enjoy private sledding and skiing on a 200 m slope right outside your door. After the snow fun, recover in your own sauna. In summer, hike to Barania Góra where multiple trails intersect, sway in hammocks, play ping-pong, roll down grassy hills, or pedal off on rental bikes available on site.

“The owner is wonderful, the place is stunning, and the house is beautiful. Morning coffee with mountain views tastes heavenly. Ideal for those seeking true silence (with a little cicada backdrop), peace, and an escape from civilization. The owners’ positive energy, smiles, and openness lead to long, heartfelt conversations. The minimalist house is fully equipped for a comfortable stay. Many thanks for the warm and friendly hospitality— we’ll be back!”

Stock up before you arrive—there’s no convenience store up here. Kid alert: there’s even a PlayStation, but reveal it only if absolutely needed. Sorry, no pets.

Villa Brenna

Book on Slowhop

Now we’re in the northern Silesian Beskids, at the heart of the Landscape Park. Villa Brenna blends the charm of a wooden cabin with upscale-hotel comforts, thanks to Patrycja and Krzysiek, inspired by Alpine resorts. Expect two terraces (with optional roofing), a bathroom with a tub and light therapy, a sauna, and a garden hot tub. Sensitive sleepers will appreciate the excellent soundproofing— you could stay in relaxation mode for weeks. For active types, there’s endless choice: follow the yellow trail to Karkoszczonka Pass for regional fare, the red to Grabowa and Chata Grabowa, or the green to Równica and a mushroom soup in a bread bowl. Let your nose and appetite guide you.

“The place is fantastic—finished with attention to detail... Superb soundproofing: we were three families with kids and heard no cries between bedrooms. The hosts were incredibly helpful and welcoming, greeting us with smoked cheese, cake, and wine. The garden is beautiful, and the hot tub evening is a sleep experience on another level. Highly recommended!”
