Forest Retreats in Poland – 9 Stays to Relax and Forage Mushrooms

Forest Retreats in Poland – 9 Stays to Relax and Forage Mushrooms

Live mushroom foraging

Will psychedelics save the world? We don’t know, but we have an even surer recipe for a thrill – a trip to the forest with a basket in hand and eyes wide open to the forest’s bounty. Rather than a quick jump into Wonderland, we suggest a fully real journey to where leaves rustle, moss scents the air, and every mushroom cluster spotted on the forest floor brings a pleasant thrill. Here are nine places to stay in Poland where you’ll not only rest as on a fantastic vacation but return richer with forest treasures (oh, that mushroom soup at Christmas Eve!) and lungs refreshed by woodland air.

Cabin in Poland’s Izera Mountains for a Nature Reset

Book your stay

Presenting the mushroom picker’s El Dorado in the Izera Mountains. This beautiful, designer cabin for four people is not only an ideal base for lounging and entering mental airplane mode, but also a hub for mushroom fascination. The host even knows “winter” mushrooms and shares her passion with guests. And even if you can only distinguish between a fly agaric and that one under the shower, here you’ll find a real Mushroom Atlas for beginners, the Fungarium, and other mushroom literature (like Lorenc’s “Mushroom Foraging”). There’s even a special basket waiting for mushroom enthusiasts! After a day of collecting forest treasures, light the fireplace, sip coffee from a handmade ceramic cup, and enjoy the view from the terrace.

  • ideal option for a couple or a pair of friends
  • you'll find a fireplace, basket with blankets, a terrace with a grill, plenty of board games, and even a telescope
  • dogs and cats are welcome
"Perfect peace and quiet, a great place to escape city noise. The cabin is tastefully decorated near the forest and hiking trails. A roe deer named Basia visited every morning :). Highly recommend!"

Restored granary by the river

Go with the flow

Here we don’t mess around with tiny finds by peering through a magnifying glass. When it comes to mushroom foraging, go for the real stuff – handfuls of chanterelles and pound-sized porcini. For those seeking new mushroom thrills, we recommend scouting from the water – ideally in the on-site kayak. And afterward, enjoy a hot bath in the wooden tub under the stars and heat up in the sauna.

  • two bedrooms for up to six guests
  • breakfast baskets for hungry guests
  • be sure to try Korycin cheese
  • reach Knyszyńska Forest in 15 minutes (with baskets in hand)
"This place is incredibly atmospheric and full of activities – you can't get bored. We especially recommend the sauna and wooden tub package; there's nothing better than relaxing with a glass of wine under the stars after a day exploring national parks. Don't hesitate – just come."

Two cabins in the Lower Beskids

Start your escape

Two wooden houses for six people stand wrapped in the peace of the mountain pass and the vastness of meadows. One guest wrote, “Wonderful place overlooking the pass, where every day we watch landscapes painted by clouds.” We can only imagine those works of art, enhanced by autumn colors. The houses have everything needed for a perfect Anne of Green Gables–style weekend: board games and a well-stocked library, and you can light the fireplace yourself. And in the morning? After coffee on the terrace, it's time for a mushroom foraging round, which is plentiful here.

  • ideal for a mushroom-foraging trip with your besties
  • close to mountain trails
  • no mobile reception
  • dogs warmly welcome
"The cabin has everything you could dream of: a fireplace, board games, unique books, a grill, bonfire spot, and above all a large terrace where you can contemplate a view you never tire of. Ropki itself is a nature gem – a handful of wooden cottages, deer, hares, and homemade cake. There's also a stream and nearby trails. All of this makes the stay a true retreat you’ll want to return to."

Private wooden cottage two hours from Krakow

Head to the hills

Once forever-traded routes crossed here and highlanders roamed, today you can only listen to wind in the fields and the loud roars of stags. In autumn you’ll see this spectacle live – wrapped in blankets with purring cats on the terrace of the 100-year-old granary. Ah yes! This place is made for cat lovers; these friendly troublemakers will happily jump into your laps. By day, head into nearby forests for mushrooms or conquer mountain peaks. In the evening, warm up in the tub, sauna, or light the fireplace.

  • great for families, friends, or a romantic weekend
  • a cottage with history
  • nearby themed trails like the Multicultural Hutsul Trail
"Thank you for a wonderful stay! We'll remember it for a long time :) The friendly cats and Mrs. Marzena’s delicious bread made it even cozier. The views are incredible. A perfect spot for those who want to relax or explore. Nearby you’ll find many wooden churches and picturesque meadows."

Soulful Masurian house

Book your stay

If you've ever dreamed of escaping autumn blues, city traffic jams, and drying clothes at the office, we have good news: relaxation is waiting by Lake Imulec. A fireplace, loads of books, lots of mushrooms, and a beautiful house with old doors and equally aged roof tiles await. Shall we go?

  • Masurian house for up to eight guests (2 bedrooms)
  • living room with a fireplace and over 1,000 books
  • right next to Masurian Landscape Park
  • watch your step—you might trip over mushrooms!
"The cottage is wonderful, tastefully decorated, and has everything you need inside and out. It's very close to the lake (just cross the street). Guests have free kayaks, bikes, a bonfire spot, and picnic tables. It's less than a ten-minute drive to Mikołajki. The hosts are friendly, attentive, and discreet. We were treated to homemade sourdough bread, beer, and cheese. Highly recommended!"

Four 6-Person Cabins with Sauna in the Bieszczady Mountains

Book your stay

If you ever wondered: where are the mushrooms? Well… they’ve all escaped to the Bieszczady. We’ve got mushroom news straight from Kasia, your host: just look under your feet, as porcini mushrooms weave right under the cabins. And if you dream of picture-perfect specimens – just go… wherever the path leads. The cabins sit by a Bieszczady stream and hide an array of autumn comforts, with a fireplace and wooden tub topping the list. After 10 pm, when the kids are asleep (and mushrooms keep growing), just point the telescope at the sky and admire the constellations.

  • comfortable 6-person cabins with sauna, fireplace, and coffee machine
  • for kids: the "Szumilovy Cabin" with a teddy bear theme and an outdoor playground
  • great base for mountain adventures
"We had an amazing time with our two kids in the teddy bear cabin. The kids' room was beautifully set up (toys, bed, lights). They loved the playground, though they spent most of their time by the stream 😀. There’s plenty of space for relaxing by the water or around the fire pit. The wooden tub is great—cooling in the heat, then warming in the evening. Every detail is taken care of, and the photos don’t do it justice. The stream really babbles, crickets chirp, and the sky is full of stars. The hosts were super helpful and provided everything we needed."

Charming cottage in Kashubia

Book your stay

A snug cottage by a Kashubian lake where all animals feel like chicks in scrambled eggs (i.e., splendid). Fresh mushrooms can be spotted from the terrace at dawn—wrapped in a blanket with morning coffee. Before you, dotted caps and the surface of Lower Raduńskie Lake, just a stone’s throw away. Just open the gate and stroll 60 m to the water. There are endless forests here—each day head in a new direction and return with pockets full of finds. And after a successful foraging trip? Light the wood stove and toast with porcini mushrooms that soon end up in your sauce…and your stomach.

  • for a couple or four adults
  • a cozy wood stove in the living room and two outdoor terraces
  • full pet amenities—beds, bowls, cooling mats, post-bath towels, blankets, and secure fencing
  • kayak and SUP available at no extra cost
"Gorgeous spot in an incredible natural setting. You can tell the cottage was created with love—it’s very cozy and has absolutely everything you need. Our dog felt at home within five minutes! His favorite spot was the bed by the big bedroom window, watching the garden’s happenings, which were plenty! Squirrels, cats, and birds greeted us every morning. In the evenings, head down to the lake shore (just a minute away) and watch the sunset from the bench as it reflects on the water—a breathtaking sight. I highly recommend this place to anyone who values peace, quiet, and nature’s beauty."

Rustic farmstay in the Izera Mountains

Book your stay

Here, at the edge of the world in the Izera Mountains, your basket never comes back empty—porcini, bay boletes, and slippery jacks practically jump under your feet. Staying in this lovely, lovingly restored house is a treat: the hosts sleep downstairs, and you stay upstairs in one of two apartments. Since they know the area like the back of their hand, they’ll show you the best mushroom spots so you can fill bag after bag with porcini and bay boletes. When you return from your forest safari, order a home-cooked dinner (80 PLN/person) from the hosts and settle by the fireplace. We have a feeling that after this punch of fresh air, you’ll be asleep before dessert.

  • for fans of lovingly restored homes: 2 apartments await
  • homemade, seasonal dishes from local ingredients—guests rave about them
  • two friendly mutts and two cats are eager for cuddles
"Staying at the Osada was pure pleasure! Sleeping in that charming house is something we’ll never forget—the interior is detailed, warm, cozy, and full of character. It has everything you need to catch your breath. Delicious breakfasts, relaxed chats at the table, a rich library, and a big box of Lego for the kids. The animals were an extra treat—the cat was petted to its heart’s content, and the dog ran around to its full satisfaction. And the garden? It’s spacious with many hidden corners waiting to be discovered. You can relax in a hammock with morning coffee or pick a blueberry straight from the bush. The owners are helpful, friendly, and open. We’re taking home only great memories and will gladly return."

Historic house with lavender fields in the heart of the Karkonosze Mountains

Book your stay

In the heart of the Karkonosze Mountains stands an almost 400-year-old house where you can head straight from the garden to the “sea of mushrooms.” The hosts will point you to where to find autumn wonders, and on your return, they'll set up a warming sauna session. The area also boasts plenty of fantastic trails, so you can combine mushroom foraging with exploring natural marvels. Bring the kids—they have their own playground and even a playroom.

  • three apartments and a private cottage—choose what suits you
  • family-friendly—definitely bring the kids
  • dogs and cats are allowed
"A wonderful place to relax at the end of the village with stunning views. We stayed in the Lavender Cottage, which was perfect for our family (2+2). It had everything we needed and a direct exit to the orchard. The grounds are huge and laid out so everyone has their 'own' piece of garden, with shared spaces for fun—a stream, hammocks, a pool, and fragrant lavender fields. The hosts, Kasia and Artur, were very kind and helpful, welcoming us with homemade cake and lavender tea. I recommend the breakfast catering—tasty and healthy. Right beyond the fence, mountain trails like Złoty Widok and Kociołki start so close you can take the kids before breakfast."
